Windsor Walk
Denmark Hill
Development
The Windsor Walk building was conceived as a solid mass of brick with a split duplex layout to address the topography of the site. This then created dynamic interiors and a series of green roof terraces.
Apartments were fitted out to the highest standards including bespoke kitchens with stone work surfaces and bathrooms fully tiled with ceramics. The Décor was with neutral tones to please buyers and tenants alike.
Hardwood flooring was laid to the lower floors with underfloor heating from a localised boiler within each apartment. Cooling units were installed to climatise the warmer months. This project also enabled purchasers to make their own specific choices with regard to certain finishes and Audio Visual systems. This was incorporated within our build programme.
Challenges
The site was constricted by buildings in close proximity on three elevations and had no direct access from the road. Therefore storage space was at a premium so materials had to be delivered on a ‘Just in time’ basis. It also meant that sequencing of works was critical and the works were carried out in a rigidly controlled manner.
The fence line also abutted a neighbouring and very active church, so great sensitivity was needed to ensure that our work would not disrupt their day to day activities. This, in addition to other constraints of the project, truly tested our management skills and the ability that we have to work with adjoining owners.
Outcome
Windsor Walk was a very testing but rewarding project and the experience taken from it is greatly beneficial to us all going forward.
